Owner & Founder, Reale Burren Sauna
Originally from Portmarnock in County Dublin, Damien’s early passions were hurling, soccer, and golf. Frequent childhood visits to Limerick and Kilkee instilled in him a deep love for the West of Ireland. At 20, he moved west to begin a 28-year career as an Air Traffic Controller in Shannon, with a memorable two-year posting in Munich.
A qualified Fitness Coach (UL, 2007) and Professional Life Coach (Coaching Development, 2021), Damien was inspired by friends who had taken the entrepreneurial leap. Determined to test himself, he spent 18 months bringing the Reale Burren Sauna to life — with invaluable support from his Finnish friend Erno.
Today, Damien pours his energy into creating exceptional sauna experiences for every guest. He loves the hands-on nature of running his own business and going the extra mile to ensure everyone who visits leaves feeling better than when they arrived.
Built For The Kinvara Community
Reale Burren Sauna was designed to promote health and wellness within Kinvara and the wider Galway area. We wanted to create a space where people could relax without needing to travel far for a quality wellness experience. Many local guests visit after sea swims, gym sessions, hikes, or stressful work weeks. It has quickly become a place where people can slow down, reconnect, and enjoy regular time for themselves.
A Family Business With Strong Local Roots
This business was built by people who care deeply about the local community. My wife, Ivana, has successfully run her own local seamstress business for many years and understands the importance of excellent customer service. We have also been involved in local Camogie management and organising the annual 92 Winter Dips sea challenge in Kinvara. That same community mindset shapes every experience we create at Reale Burren Sauna.

Our electrical sauna was built throughout 2024 and 2025 with incredible dedication and support from a talented team who helped bring the project to life. Guests can enjoy a relaxing steam sauna, modern changing facilities, hot showers, refreshments, and a revitalising plunge pool after every session.
